Sway-A-Way 2018 IRS Axles are designed for custom VW IRS applications requiring an 18 3/4" axle. A common configuration uses a Type 2 Bus transaxle with stock-length VW Bug IRS trailing arms and a rear torsion housing widened approximately 5 3/4". The axle retains the standard 33-tooth VW CV joint spline.

Sway-A-Way uses an extended, shoulderless spline design that allows the CV joint to float along the axle as the suspension moves through its travel. This helps reduce binding and the risk of CV cage breakage. Each axle is manufactured from solid alloy steel, heat treated, centerless ground and powder coated for corrosion resistance.

This is a custom suspension-length axle, not a stock VW Bug IRS replacement. Axle requirements depend on the combination of transaxle, trailing-arm geometry, torsion housing width and CV joint location. Verify the required axle length for your specific installation before ordering.

Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 VW CV joints use the compatible 33-tooth center spline, but the CV joints, transaxle flanges and stub axles must be matched appropriately for the installation.

Replacement Sway-A-Way 33-tooth axle circlips are available separately as CB #7598.

For custom IRS installations, verify axle length and CV joint plunge throughout the complete suspension travel before final assembly.

Sway-A-Way IRS axles are available in several lengths for different combinations of transaxles, trailing arms and rear suspension widths. Measure the required axle length and verify the complete suspension configuration before ordering.
