Sway-A-Way 2016 IRS Axles are a high-performance replacement for stock-width VW Bug IRS applications using a Type 1 transaxle and stock-length rear trailing arms. The 16 1/4" overall length corresponds to the standard VW Bug IRS axle configuration while retaining the 33-tooth VW CV joint spline.

Sway-A-Way uses an extended, shoulderless spline design that allows the CV joint to float along the axle as the suspension moves through its travel. This helps reduce binding and the risk of CV cage breakage. Each axle is manufactured from solid alloy steel, heat treated, centerless ground and powder coated for corrosion resistance.

This is the standard-length axle in the Sway-A-Way VW IRS range. Applications using a Bus transaxle, wider trailing arms or a widened rear torsion housing may require a different axle length.

Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 VW CV joints use the compatible 33-tooth center spline, but the CV joints, transaxle flanges and stub axles must be matched appropriately for the installation.

Replacement Sway-A-Way 33-tooth axle circlips are available separately as CB #7598.

For custom IRS installations, verify axle length and CV joint plunge throughout the complete suspension travel before final assembly.

Sway-A-Way IRS axles are available in several lengths for different combinations of transaxles, trailing arms and rear suspension widths. Measure the required axle length and verify the complete suspension configuration before ordering.
