Sway-A-Way 2270 Swing Axles are a performance upgrade for VW swing-axle applications using the 28 7/16" long-spline axle configuration. This axle is used on 1968 VW Bug swing-axle applications and applicable Type 3 models equipped with swing-axle rear suspension. Manufactured from forged aircraft alloy steel, each axle is precision machined, heat treated and centerless ground for a smooth, consistent finish.

Unlike the tapered center section of a stock axle, Sway-A-Way maintains a consistent center diameter all the way to the spline. This design allows the axle to twist under heavy loads, helping absorb drivetrain shock and reduce the chance of transaxle damage.

Verify rear suspension type before ordering. This axle is for swing-axle applications only. Some 1968 VW models were equipped with IRS-style rear suspension, and later Type 3 applications also use a different rear axle system.

The long-spline configuration refers to the longer wheel-end splined section used with the corresponding long-spline brake drum and rear brake components. It should not be confused with the overall axle length.

VW swing-axle length and spline configuration changed between model years. Verify your existing axle, spline configuration and rear suspension type before ordering.
