Sway-A-Way rear torsion bars are a proven suspension upgrade for performance, street and off-road VW applications. Manufactured from high-quality alloy steel, these solid torsion bars are heat treated and centerless ground for consistent diameter and spring characteristics.

1959-1968 Type 1 Swing Axle

This application uses Sway-A-Way's 21-3/4" Short torsion bars. Because modified vehicles may have suspension components that differ from the original configuration, verify torsion bar length and suspension type before ordering.

Torsion bar diameter has a major effect on rear spring rate. Increasing the diameter produces a progressively stiffer torsion bar.

The 26mm #1026 provides a firmer rear spring rate than the 24mm and 25mm versions, making it a step further into the performance-oriented range while still leaving several larger-diameter options above it.

Torsion bar selection should take vehicle weight, suspension setup, intended use and desired ride characteristics into consideration.

Torsion Bar Charts and Specs.

Sway-A-Way torsion bars are marked for identification and left/right orientation. Install each torsion bar on the corresponding side indicated by the manufacturer marking.

Proper torsion bar indexing determines rear ride height and preload. Installation should be performed using appropriate suspension service procedures and equipment.
